This area of the Lake Erie Wine Association has a long history of grape growing, beginning more than 150 years ago with the native Concord and Catawba grapes. Starting in the 1950’s, French-American hybrid vines began appearing along the protected shores of Lake Erie. Today, vintners are producing high quality wines such as Pinot Noir and Riesling. Wineries welcome the public for tours and tastings. Check listings for times and special events.

Terroir and Viticulture
There is no direct English translation for the French word terroir. But we can define it as the grapegrowing environmental elements. The soil, the sun, the water, even the air itself play a significant role in terroir. Even the notorious Lake Erie Effect is beneficial to the grape growing region. The Lake Erie terroir is excellent for growing classic European grapes like Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris, plus many other exciting varietals.


Lake Erie, providing something for everyone. Tranquil, family-oriented Kelley’s Island is a relaxing getaway. Rent a bike for a tour through the scenic state park, enjoy the old-fashioned charm of the town, take the family on a Lake Erie cruise, swim, waterski, and fish. For the more adventurous, take the ferry to Putin-Bay, home of the famous Roundhouse Saloon, where local musician Pat Daley performs his “island music” for a jampacked house on weekends.

For thrill-seekers, spend a day at Cedar Point, the amusement park with more roller coasters than any other in the world! The area also boasts three giant water parks.

The city of Cleveland has a wealth of cultural life to offer its visitors. From the world-
renowned Cleveland Orchestra, a wide variety of museums and exhibits, and Broadway-
touring shows, you can spend several days immersed in history and the arts. The area also offers many options for fine dining, shopping, and an exciting nightlife.
