Quality Assured Wines

Growing some of the world’s best grapes, including Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Riesling, the Lake Erie vintners want to assure their consumers that wines produced within the Lake Erie AVA are of the highest quality. These winemakers have agreed to adopt the Lake Erie Quality Assurance label for their wines that surpass the test.

The White Wines of Lake Erie
CHARDONNAY The Lake Erie terroir provides an excellent growing season for the of the world’s premier white wine grapes. The king of white wine, Chardonnay offers the aficionado flavors that range from melon, citrus, apples, and pears. The wine is crisp and dry, and perfect for Lake Erie summers. Another excellent white produced along our shores is the elegant Italian white, Pinot Gris (Pinot Grigio in Italian). Clean and fresh with delicate hints of summer fruits and spice, this wine is an excellent choice for summer and fall. RIESLING A varietal native to Germany growing along the banks of the Rhine River, Riesling can range from dry to very sweet, with excellent balance. Aromas of flowers, along with ripe green apples and citrus are balanced by a firm mouth-atering acidity. Unlike most other whites, Riesling is an excellent choice for cellaring for decades. Pair a medium-dry Lake Erie Riesling with oysters or a simply grilled white fish. GEWURZTRAMINER A most distinctive varietal, Gewürztraminer shows characteristics of lychee fruit, nutmeg, and rose petals, plus a textural roundness and moderate acidity. Gerwurtztraminer goes well with spicy Indian or Thai food, strong fish, dried sausages,
and olives.

In order to earn the Lake Erie Quality Assurance label, the wines must undergo rigorous testing. An expert tasting panel from around the Lake Erie Region takes part in a double-blind taste test, ensuring the integrity of the test. The judges all have a professional background in wine; viticulturalists, wine managers, enologists, and food science professors, have been included on the tasting panel. The wines that are judged to be of the highest quality receive the Lake Erie Quality Assurance label.

Go ahead, uncork a bottle of wine with the Lake Erie Quality Assurance Program and you’ll know that you’re enjoying some of the best wine produced today.
